Our Mission

As a mother of three small children, I am all too familiar of the unique journey each pregnancy brings. During my 1st pregnancy, I remember feeling unheard and rushed during most of my prenatal appointments. When the time finally came for my labor and birth, I had minimal support and felt lost on which choices to make for myself and my baby. With my 2nd pregnancy, I had a much more empowering pregnancy, labor, and birth experience. I did however developed postpartum depression and anxiety shortly after my baby was born. I remember waiting for what felt like a lifetime for my one and only postpartum visit at 6 weeks to express my feelings and concerns. Every women deserves to feel supported and heard throughout their pregnancy journey which doesn't stop with the birth of their baby. Lastly, with my third pregnancy I opted for an homebirth and felt immensely empowered by my loving and caring Midiwfe. I finally recieved the care and attention I routinely gave so many others. Onyx Midwifery Services strives to provide both individualized and evidence-based care. I'm here to help women navigate their pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum recovery with a wealth of knowledge, support, and empowerment.

Meet Your Midwife

Hi I’m Nalah Morrow, a Board Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) who was born and raised in Pomona, Ca. I graduated with my Bachelor of Nursing from West Coast University and immediately enrolled into Bethel University where I received my Master’s in Nurse Midwifery. After receiving my Master’s in Midwifery, my family and I relocated to Washington D.C. for a yearlong Fellowship where I cared for low-risk to high-risk birthing people and everything in-between. During my time in my fellowship, I was also able to learn and hone in on skills for both vaginal breech birth and twin birth. My family and I relocated back to California where I had the opportunity to work as a CNM serving the Long Beach community both at a birth center and homebirth setting. Unfortunately, the birth center were I worked experienced an closure and I was left without employment. This lead myself and my family to move to Arizona in 2025. I worked at small OBGYN office in Maricopa County serving women from all walks of life until I finally answered the calling God has set for me and started Onyx Midwifery Services.

I choose to become a CNM after witnessing what I now know as Obstetric violence to a close family member. In that moment a fire was ignited. I went home and researched for hours to only discover her experience was not unique. I learned about the heart wrenching statics regarding Black Maternal mortality rates being 3x’s higher then their White counterparts, and their babies mirroring similar statics during their first year of life. For these reasons, I’m passionate about providing compassionate, culturally competent, and evidence-based Midwifery care.

Homebirth

Prenatal Care

We do all of your prenatal appointments in the comfort of your home. We bring all of the equipment necessary for your routine prenatal visits. Your prenatal care will consist of an initial visit starting at 8-10 weeks where we dedicate an hour reviewing your medical history, performing a physical exam, initial labs, genetic testing, nutritional recommends, ultrasound review or referrals, stress reduction, and physical activity.

Follow up appointments 45 mins in length:

  • Starting at 8-10 weeks visits occur monthly until 28 weeks

    • I require an anatomy scan at ~20 weeks to confirm placenta location and fetal anatomy.

  • 28-36 weeks visits occuring every two weeks

  • 36-42 weeks visits occuring weekly until birth

During these visits I assess your vital signs, fetal heart rate, fundal height, lab work, ultrasounds, and fetal position.

Birth

Once your labor has begun and you have given us a call, I will come out to your house and assess your labor. Accompanying me to your home would be my skilled birth assistant. This person may be another Midwife, Registered Nurse, or trained birth assistant capable of assisting me in the event of an emergency or Neonatal Resuscitation if necessary. We set up all of the necessary equipment for your labor, birth, immediate postpartum, and newborn care. We monitor you and your baby at regular intervals to ensure both of your safety.

Immediate Postpartum

After your baby is born, we routinely check your vitals and the vitals of your baby for 2-4 hours. I will conduct a full newborn head to toe exam, check weight, and length. Before we leave you to bond with your new addition. We will ensure you and your baby are stable, you have eaten, and your baby has nursed. Lastly, we do all of the cleaning up and head out.

Postpartum

We'll see each other again 24-48hrs postpartum, during this visit we can perform the metabolic screen if desired and CCDH Screen. Although Midwives can care for newborns during the first 30 days of life, we require that they are seen by a Pediatrician within 72 hours of life. We will see each other again at 2 weeks, 4 weeks virtually, and 6 weeks postpartum.
